It will be the next big event planned, after the second YoungHort conference held today at The Landscape Show. The conference, which drew in speakers from across the industry at the event in Battersea Park, London, was followed by a recording of BBC Gardeners’ Question Time.

Interim YoungHort director Jamie Butterworth, who organised today’s event, said: "We are yet to fix everything but we would like to have a range of categories including young landscaper, young florist and young horticulture journalist. The aim is to reward young people in the industry who may not be as visible and put them in the spotlight."

Butterworth said the group hoped that the spring awards ceremony and autumn conference would become a pattern for the group, which met through college and social media.

Speaking at today’s event he said that the YoungHorts, formed in December, did not think "in their wildest dreams" they would be on their second conference by now.

Sue Biggs, Juliet Sargent, Andrew Fisher Tomlin, Adam Frost, Alistair Griffiths, Faye Steer, Philip Turvill, Raoul Curtis-Machin, Leigh Morris and nine-year-old RHS Young School Gardener of the Year George Hassall also spoke.
