Young horticulturist contest finalists named

Of the IoH eight branches taking part in the Young Horiculturist of the Year competition, seven of the Regional Finals have now taken place, with the South West Regional Final coming up on 5 April.

The regional finalists to date are:
  • Eastern Branch: Rosie Kippen - BSc (Hons) student at Writtle College and Nursery Assistant;
  • Ireland Branch: Stephen Walsh student at Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin;
  • North West and North Wales Branch: Lawrence Wright - student gardener at Chatsworth House;
  • Northern Branch: Chris Parsons - East Durham College;
  • Scotland Branch: Lachlan Rae - Horticulture student at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh;
  • South East Branch: Kristina Vandenburgh - student of the RHS Wisley Diploma in Practical Horticulture, Wisley;
  • West Midlands and South Wales - Guy Jones: Owner of Emotive Landscapes and a freelance garden journalist and photographer.
The Grand Final will be held on 10 May at the John Innes Centre, Norwich.
National sponsors for the 2014 YHoY competition are the Shropshire Horticultural Society, who, through the Percy Thrower Trust, provide the £2,000 Travel Bursary for the winner and also sponsorship of the Grand Final; the recruitment company MorePeople; the R&D levy body the Horticultural Development Company (HDC); The Garden Centre Group and Bulldog Tools.
