Writtle College to host horticultural talk series

Some of the world's biggest names in horticulture have signed up to give a series of talks at Writtle College.

Five-times RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist Andy Sturgeon will headline the James Hearsum lectures with "Making the modern garden' on 21 February.

Green-roof specialist Dusty Gedge will talk on brownfield revegetation on 6 December. Winfield House head gardener Stephen Crisp will take his turn on 24 January.

The series will close on 27 March with plantswoman Derry Watkins' talk on 'pushing the boundaries' with borderline hardy and tender plants. Proceeds from the series will go towards student travel bursaries; last year, £2,500 was awarded to five students.

Tickets for the five talks cost from £30. Email gre.allen@writtle.ac.uk.
