Work has started on a large-scale public realm scheme to improve a section of the Parade in Watford town centre.
The £4m scheme by landscape architects at BDP aims to make the town centre more attractive to draw shoppers, families and businesses to the area.
Watford Borough Council said it will transform the area into a high-profile civic space with the flexibility to stage outdoor events.
According to BDP, the scheme will provide new street furniture, trees and street lighting to; "make the street brighter and attract more people to the area during the evenings".
The practice added: "We aim to create an elegant and comfortable environment for pedestrians and cyclists. The work will also retain and enhance the setting of the pond, which has been there for over 100 years."
