Whitehall Garden Centre reveals revamp proposals

Whitehall Garden Centre in Wiltshire has revealed that proposals to revamp its facilities could create around 75 additional jobs for locals.

Managing director Peter Self said: "Our plans to enhance the 22-acre (9ha) site will mean more full- and part-time job opportunities for people from the area. The proposals, working within the existing footprint of the site, include enriching the customer experience and improving pedestrian and vehicle access." If the plans are given the green light by councillors, Self and his family - who have run the garden centre since 1968 and farmed in the area since the 1880s - will start work on the first phase of the five-year multi-million-pound redevelopments towards the end of 2009.
