Claimed to offer a similar texture to peat, and with fertiliser to last for four-months, West + Light & Easy is 60 per cent lighter than conventional peat-based compost for easy portability.

Westland's marketing director Keith Nicholson said, "From research we have carried out, the most common issue surrounding the purchase of compost is its weight. We have created a
product that addresses this problem without any compromise on quality."

The company has also invested in a new production facility in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, doubling the amount of the West+ range that can be produced. This new plant was officially opened today by gardening celebrity Diarmuid Gavin, long associated with Westland's products.
