West Yorkshire garden centre hit by fire

Stephen H Smith's garden centre in Otley, West Yorkshire has been hit by a fire.

Some 50 firefighters attended the blaze at the garden centre, which began at 11.15pm on 18 July.

A total of 20% of the single-storey building was affected by the fire. The damage covers an area of 400 square metres. 

The blaze is understood to have broken out in the Pet Safari concession at the garden centre. Some small animals including mice, rabbits and guinea pigs are believed to have died in the blaze.

The garden centre said on Twitter: "Thank you to @WYFRS for their quick response to last night's incident @StephenHSmiths."

Stephen H Smith's hope to re-open on 20 July. The business sold its Bolton centre in 2013.
