First Minister in the Welsh government Carwyn Jones has shuffled his cabinet and has rationalised the situation, described by forestry body Confor as "ridiculous", where forestry policy came under Environment and Sustainable Development and forestry support under Agriculture and European Funding.
In the new cabinet, Alun Davies has been given a full ministerial portfolio, which includes forestry policy. He retains European Funding.
Confor’s Kath McNulty has written to Davies asking for an early meeting to discuss future direction of travel for forestry. This is particularly important as Natural Resources Wales will be launched on 2 April 2013 and McNulty is part of a small team drawing up a proposal for forestry under the next Regional Development Plan.
John Griffiths, formerly minister for Environment and Sustainable Development moves to the Department for Culture and Sport.
