Webbs recognised as GCA’s Garden Centre of the Year

“A philosophy of excellence in all areas by everyone” helped Webbs Garden Centre win the GCA Garden Centre of the Year award, presented at the association’s conference in Manchester this week.

Webbs, which underwent a £5m rebuild in 2006, took the title for a second year in succession because of its attention to detail, helpful staff and easy shopping, said judge Ian Boardman. The other judges were Eve Tigwell, Roger Crookes and Andy Campbell. Cowell’s in Newcastle and Millbrook Gravesend were runners up. * Area winners were: Midlands — Webbs Garden Centre, Wychbold; North East — Cowell’s Garden Centre; North West — Lady Green; North Thames — Aylett Nurseries; Northern Ireland — Donaghadee Garden Centre; Scotland — Sandyholm Garden Centre; South Thames — Millbrook Garden Centre, Gravesend; Wales and West — Trelawney. * The winner of the best people award for 2007 was Wheatcroft Garden Centre. Runners up were Sunshine Garden Centre, Millbrook Gravesend and Mugdock Plantaria. * The Garden Industry Manufacturers’ Association award for excellence in garden product retailing went to Cowell’s Garden Centre, while the GCA associate member of the year was Taylors Bulbs.
