Weather challenges and labour constraints have hampered fruit growers attempts to grow - HW 's UK Fruit Grower Report finds

Fruit growers’ efforts to take advantage of opportunities to increase production are being frustrated, writes Gavin McEwan.

Our turnover figures for the UK’s largest fruit growers, largely relating to the 2018 fruit season, show an industry holding steady in the face of a number of challenges, but generally unable to take advantage of opportunities to expand.

Those companies that posted turnover figures for the period showed a collective rise of just 2.5% — almost exactly matching the inflation rate over the period, while profits for many fell.
