Wakefield park plan scrutinises potential

The long-term management of Pontefract Park in Wakefield is being explored as part of a plan examining its future development.

The park, which has a racecourse, sports pitches and a golf course, is to get a 10-year improvement plan, which will aim to encourage use of the green space.

Wakefield Council and Pontefract Park Race Company are putting together the document and are currently consulting with the public on ideas for the park.

The council's cabinet member for environment Councillor Clive Hudson said: "Pontefract Park & Racecourse is the largest urban park in the district. It is important that we make sure it is a beautiful place to spend time in.

"We know how important the park is and want to know how people value it and where they think there are areas for improvement. This is everyone's chance to let us know what they would like to see happen."

- A questionnaire is available at www.wakefield.gov.uk/pontefractparkandracecourse.
