PSD launches public consultation for the sustainable use of plant protection products

The Pesticides Safety Directorate (PSD) has launched a public consultation for the sustainable use of plant protection products. The Government sees the consultation, which will lead to the drafting of a national strategy, as a step towards minimising the risk to the environment from pesticides. The strategy will include legal controls, measures that complement regulations and reducing adverse environmental impacts via targeted use. PSD plans to reduce water pollution and safeguard biodiversity. A PSD representative said: “We cannot anticipate implications for any one sector before the current consultation has run its course and relevant responses have been fully considered. The Government’s proposals are outlined in five draft action plans and the strategy is accompanied by a draft Regulatory Impact Assessment. We encourage everyone with an interest to contribute to the consultation.” See environment.asp?id=1539
