Ukraine: horticulture fundraising updates as thousands raised

The gardening industry is stepping up to help war-torn Ukraine.

Harkness/Planet Gardening

Gardening Express' Chris Bonnett said: "Due to huge demand from those that want to support the #TrucktoUkraine initiative, but can not make a physical donation, I have set up this Just Giving page.

Harkness/Planet Gardening's Ukraine Peace Rose, set to raise thousands for Ukraine, is selling "very well - everybody’s adding some their orders", says Planet Gardening's Dave Andrews. "We have 3,000. If we sell them all at £8.45 that’s £25,000. I have just had a garden centre order a full trolley to sell and send all the money to the people of Ukraine."

Planet Gardening is also putting together a truck of aid to send to Poland.

Seeds of Italy's Paolo Arrigo has made a 20 hour mery dash to Poland with aid and returning with refugees. He said: "We've been told to brace ourselves for a desperate, grim situation. I am organising a convoy in two weeks to take refugees away. watch this space

London College of Garden Design on 8 March (5pm, £7) will raise money for medical charities in Ukraine through its InfoBurst featuring designer Kate Gould. Cash raised from ticket sales is £1,000 and then LCGD will match fund that, so £2,000 in all.
