UK packaging firm bought by French multinational

Sharp Interpack has been bought by the French packaging multinational Groupe Guillin.

After signing contracts on April 9, Groupe Guillin has now acquired 100% of Sharp Interpack's shares and assets after starting negotiations with the firm at the end of last year.

A representative for Sharp Interpack said: "The combination of Groupe Guillin's expertise alongside Sharp Interpack's UK market experience allows Guillin to strengthen its leading position on the European market for fruit and vegetables, and expand its strategic position in the industry and develop new industrial and commercial relationships for meat products."

Sharp Interpack is known to the fresh produce industry for its punnets and has three industrial sites - in Aylesham in Kent, Bridgwater in Somerset and Yate in Bristol.

Its forecast to turnover for the 2009/2010 financial year is £86m.

However, the representative added that the accounts for Sharp Interpack for 2009/2010 were closed on March 31 and Groupe Guillin is not able to communicate the results.

However, "the consolidation of accounts for Sharp Interpack will make a positive contribution both in terms of operating profit as the Net Income and Cash Flow for group accounts."
