UK exhibitors say IPM Essen is now best show for them

The IPM Essen trade show has overtaken Horti Fair as the best show in Europe, according to exhibitors at this year's event.

This year saw the largest ever British presence at the show, with five new exhibitors. Thirty-six per cent of visitors came from overseas, a rise in the foreign proportion of 10 per cent.

Beekenkamp UK and Ireland sales manager Sirekit Mol said: "There is a really good atmosphere at IPM - it's buzzing. But Horti Fair is more focused on machinery and I wouldn't recommend IPM for that."

David Austin Roses international sales director Tony Slack agreed that IPM had become more important than Horti Fair for the company on a wholesale level.

"This is the biggest show in the world," he said. "It has been in decline in recent years, but it's a tough time."

Caledonian Tree Nursery owner Jamie Single said Groot Groen was the only show that compared.

"It has a similar number of growers. This show is much broader and Groot Groen is grower focused, so a lot of serious growers go there and get what they need."
