TV star Christopher Biggins launched the hybrid tea rose, which the Cheshire-based grower bred specially for the show. Previous roses from Jones launched at Southport include the Rosa 'Coronation Street', Rosa 'Eppie Gavin' (for Diarmuid Gavin's daughter) and Rosa 'Roxanne Pallett'.

Owner Keith Jones said that £2.50 from each rose will go to Claire House Children's Hospice on the Wirral. Bare-root roses cost £12.50 plus £4.95 delivery for up to three roses from www.jonestherose.co.uk.

Hippopottering Nursery also launched Acer 'Harvest Moon', a home-grown Acer that is wider than it is tall. It is available grafted to order.
