The Acorn consortium of John Laing, Laing O'Rourke and Interserve has achieved "financial close" in the project, which will see a new turf-roofed hospital "rise out of a park" in three finger buildings interspersed with smaller gardens, said BDP.
Alder Hey is due to open in 2015 and will mesh with Springfield Park. Most bedrooms will have park views. Wards will lead onto play decks so that children who cannot leave the ward benefit from outdoor space.
"The new building will rise out of the park on approach with an undulating profile, making it instantly recognisable," said multidisciplinary designer BDP. Site work started last week.
