Tree expert launches umbrella group for professionals and amateurs

Tree experts are forming a new group that will bring together professionals and amateur enthusiasts.

John Tuer, who is co-launching the National Tree Forum, said: "The idea is to pull together people interested in trees."

The Severn Tree Trust tree-planting officer said the forum would act as an umbrella group ad he hoped it would bring together tree trusts and clubs.

"There are many issues we feel could be addressed with a strong force as a lobby group. Tree disease rules, for example, need tightening up."

The forum's inaugural meeting takes place at Garden Organic near Coventry on 12 November and Tuer is expecting to recruit around 50 members to talk about constitution and funding.
