Treborth Garden Centre open for business in time for Easter sales after buyout from Welsh firm Stermat Hardware

Treborth Garden Centre in Bangor is open for business again after it was bought by local family firm Stermat Hardware of Gwynedd.

The centre, one of the largest garden centres in north Wales, stopped trading on 16 March.

But a sale has now been completed, and the garden centre is already trading again.

Administrator Mazars business recovery partner Tim Askham told HW that two of the big players in the garden centre sector had been interested in buying Treborth, but they were beaten by Stermat Hardware.

The freehold centre includes 2.08ha of land, two lakes and parking for 116 cars, as well as a 158-cover restaurant with 40 seats outside.

Staff at the family-run Stermat, which operates hardware stores in Colwyn Bay, Caernarfon, Gaerwen and Valley, bought the centre for an undisclosed amount, and said the centre's former staff were welcome to reapply for their previous positions.

Stermat Hardware completed the sale on 6 April, in time to reopen for the Easter weekend.
