Toby Buckland has appeared on gardening television programmes including BBC Gardener’s World and written four gardening books.

"Growing and the West Country are two things close to my heart so it’s a real honour for me to open the South West Growers Show," he said.

"The event celebrates the work of the region’s growers and I’m looking forward to getting round and meeting as many exhibitors as possible."

Show chairman Mark Taylor said: "Toby – who lives in Devon – has an enduring passion for horticulture and gardening. Who better to open the show?!"

The show opens on 5 October at the Matford Centre in Exeter. For more information visit www.swgs.co.uk.
