T&M offers "sweetest ever" tomato variety

Thompson & Morgan managing director Paul Hansord has offered to give customers their money back if a new tomato variety is not “the sweetest they’ve ever tasted”.

Hansord made the pronouncement about the company’s ‘Sweet Aperitif’, which he claims produces the best-tasting tomatoes available.

"It’s 20 years since I discovered the now hugely popular orange-skinned tomato variety, Sungold, which at the time took tomato flavour to a new level," he said.

"Since then I’ve tried hundreds of new tomato varieties and none have beaten Sungold on taste. That is, until I tasted Sweet Aperitif. It has a wonderfully sweet flavour and a remarkably thin skin. Everyone should try it - I’m convinced it’s going to be the next best-selling red-skinned tomato."

The variety can be grown indoors or outside and in a greenhouse will produce more than 500 tomatoes over a six month cropping period.
