Scott David Donnison, 28, of Brighton, died almost instantly from a severed neck artery while operating a Stihl MS200T chainsaw in March last year. He was using a harness while up a willow tree in a domestic garden in Hailsham, East Sussex.
Plumpton College head of arboriculture and forestry Paul Collins and lecturer Tony Marshall were called in as expert witnesses by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) at the inquest at Lewes Magistrates' Court. The two said equipment had been in good working order and that Donnison had been following good practice. He was certified to work with a chainsaw at height.
The inquest returned a verdict of accidental death.
