Suppliers trade body GIMA to organise garden industry shows summit

Eight garden industry trade bodies are set to meet on 9 October in London to discuss the future of trade shows in the sector.

Garden Industry Manufacturers Association director Neil Gow said the Horticultural Trades Association, Garden Centre Association, Gardenex, furniture body LOFA, BHETA, The Gift Association, OATA and Petcare Trust will meet to talk about what the garden industry wants from trade shows.

He said: "The garden industry needs to decide what it needs and wants and get on and support it."

Gow said Glee was not being supported by all the trade and that some "covert" companies had attended without taking a stand; a practice which he felt was undermining the NEC Birmingham September event.

He added that if the shows were appealing to the same audience year after year they had to "ring the changes".
