Keith Price, a second-year BTEC national diploma student for Horticulture, is turning an investigative project he worked up at college into a show garden.
Inspiration for the design, for a 5mx5m plot, came from tutor Graham Ludgate, who suggested a poster of a cross-section of a plant cell could be turned into a garden.
The outcome was a Japanese-style garden. Budget restrictions have prompted Price's team to seek sponsorship from nurseries and garden centres.
It needs help with golden bamboo, clipped box balls, semi-mature weeping silver birch, low-growing foliage plants for a living wall and plants, gravel, and a weed membrane.
"I was thinking of entering Shrewsbury Flower Show," said Price. "But Eileen Avery, the course area leader, suggested I go for BBC Gardener's World Live."
