Squires buys Shoots garden centres

Squires Garden Centres has bought the Shoots group for an undisclosed sum.

Shoots owns a centre in Almondsbury, West Sussex and leases centres at Stanmore, Middlesex and Cobham, Surrey.

Gilbert Evans acted as consultant for Shoots.

The group turned over £6.84m in the year to August 2009 and recorded £10,000 profit before tax.

MD Piers Mummery is believed to be leaving the industry. He founded the first Shoots centre in 2004.

Squires will now run 14 garden centres in the South East.

Squires turned over £30.55m in the year to July 2010, with £3.7m profit.
