South West careers event sees schools hear industry talks on working in horticulture

Bridgwater College's Cannington Centre recently held a 'Grow Careers in Horticulture' event to encourage the next generation of professional horticulturalists.

More than 50 local secondary school pupils from Robert Blake Science College and Brymore were among over 100 delegates to the Institute of Horticulture (IOH) sponsored event, at which exhibitors including The Eden Project, Bristol Zoo, Cantelo nurseries, RHS, IOH, IOG and South West Growers contributed to talks and tasters encouraging attendees to consider a career in Horticulture.

Careers showcased included working in zoological, educational and research gardens, the food production industry, the ornamental plants sector, and sports turf.

Ian Parks, from the IOH said, "IOH and Grow were very pleased to have been able to work with Bridgwater College’s Cannington Centre and South West Growers to bring professionals and representative organisations together, to showcase the opportunities available within horticulture.

"It was great to see so many facets coming together to promote the importance of our industry."
