Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre in Taunton has taken extra deliveries of sledges after selling out at the end of last month.
Shop manager Steve Searle said: "We have had a flurry of visitors coming in especially to buy sledges from the garden centre. The demand has been massive.
"With more snow predicted this week and throughout December than previous years, our customers are preparing in advance to not only go sledging during the Yuletide but also to be able to pull any urgent provisions along in snowy conditions. We had run out of sleds last week but, due to popular demand, we have now stocked up and have 300 more in-store.
"Sales this year have so far out stripped those of the same period in 2009. We have sold five times more this year as people are getting more prepared for the potential cold snap than they were in January this year so they are stocking up with the items they need now so they don’t get caught out.
"There are many hills in this area for people to go out sledging for the day, such as the Quantocks, the Mendips and Exmoor, so it also seems likely to be a popular activity for the festive season, even if we just get a covering on high land."
