Show garden winner chosen

RHS describes the standards of show gardens as 'extraordinarily high'.

The Daily Telegraph Garden won the Best Show Garden accolade at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. It was created by Tom Stuart-Smith, who celebrated his sixth gold medal and his second best-in-show award. RHS shows director Stephen Bennett said the standard of show gardens was “extraordinarily high” and better than it had been for years. “It was also great to see some of the overseas exhibitors doing very well, with the Australian and New Zealanders up there,” he added. Cyrus Design @ Leeds Metropolitan University scooped the Best Courtyard Garden award with A Garden For Robin. Designers Diane Appleyard, Paul Ashton, Dawn Johnson, Simon Street and John Walker captured the essence of York Gate Garden in Leeds and the spirit of its creator, Robin Spencer. Trips to Australia, New Zealand and Madeira helped to inspire Caspar Gabb’s design for The Green Room, constructed by Natural Elements, which won the Best City Garden award. The Best Chic Garden award went to Japanese designer Kazuyuki Ishihara for his Ao Arashi (The Blue Storm), built by Kazahana Co. The President’s Award went to Bournemouth council’s display.
