Scotts UK aligns with US parent

Closer links to US parent company sees name change for established brand

Growing media specialist Scotts UK is to work more closely with its US parent company and will change its name to The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. Scotts’ European operation, the International Consumer Business Group, will also be restructured, reflecting a decision by the US parent company to build a global lawn and garden care business. John Wyatt takes the new role of vice-president and general manager of the international consumer business. Martin Breddy replaces him as general manager for the UK consumer business. # Scotts will continue peat-cutting on the Hatfield Moor site of special scientific interest in East Yorkshire despite a £17.3m government deal in 2002 to hand 1,526ha to English Nature. Friends of the Earth said Scotts retained rights for 30ha of the site and wants to cut peat there again. Scotts said it extracted peat from “high spots” to preserve the land’s restorability. Elliot Morley, DEFRA minister, opened the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve, which includes Hatfield, last month.
