Scott Smith takes role at Bodnant

New position for Troy Scott Smith just days after starting another new role.

Former RHS Hyde Hall curator Troy Scott Smith has become head gardener at the National Trust’s (NT’s) Bodnant Gardens after just a week at the BBC as a TV researcher. Scott Smith left Hyde Hall after less than a year to take the BBC role but moved on almost immediately to Bodnant, in Conwy, North Wales. He first worked at Bodnant in 1990 before stints at NT properties Sissinghurst in Kent and The Courts in Wiltshire. Previous Bodnant head gardener Martin Puddle drowned in a pond at the 54ha garden on 2 June 2005. Coroners recorded an open verdict at an inquest, while the NT launched an investigation. Puddle’s widow, Sandra, told the Llandudno inquest that events at his work had been “playing on his mind” in the weeks before his death. His father and grandfather had been head gardeners at Bodnant.
