Science into practice - peat alternatives for growing brassica modules

Recent trials with calabrese and cauliflower modules suggest that there are considerable opportunities for reducing peat use by vegetable plant propagators. Some 59,000 tonnes of peat were used in 2005 and to date only coir has been used, but due to its high cost compared with peat, uptake is not widespread.
