RSPB helps arborists to safeguard breeding birds

Protection of the UK's breeding birds was the focus for UPM Tilhill arboriculture managers during a staff training day with the RSPB.

The event, which took place at UPM Tilhill's South East district office in East Sussex, helped forest and arboriculture managers find out more about the legal protection given to breeding birds.

They learned how good working practice can reduce any risk to the birds, as well as how management can help improve trees for birds.

UPM Tilhill forest ecologist John Gallacher said: "This was an ideal way to demonstrate how operations such as tree felling, pruning and scrub control could lead to disturbance of breeding birds."
