RHS staff learn Farplants history

More than 50 staff from the RHS Plant Centre in Wisley, Surrey, visited Farplants Sales last week to learn more about the company's trading history.

Tim Jacob, Wisley account manager and Farplants sales manager, spoke about new lines for 2009, including some exclusives being grown for the RHS.

The visitors were also shown a micro-propagation demonstration by Walberton Nursery, Farplants' promotion specialist nursery with two on-site laboratories.

Lab manager Dr Karen Girard and micro-prop lab supervisors Sue Phillips and Dawn Cowell described how they cleaned up stock plants to introduce new promotions to the market ahead of large-scale production such as Digitalis 'Gold Crest' and Helleborus 'Walberton's Rosemary'.

Dr Girard said: "It was great to show garden-centre customers the behind-the-scenes professionalism that brings great new garden plants to the marketplace."
