RHS show highlights vegetables

Leading chef to highlight local produce at RHS shows.

The increasing importance of the trend for growing food will be evident at RHS flower shows in the next month. The RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show on 3-8 July will showcase Secretts Farm’s finest produce cooked by top London restaurant Quaglino’s chef Craig James. Surrey’s Hampton Court will feature demonstrations of cookery by James, who will use the promotion to push the RHS’s “grow your own” campaign. It uses fruit and vegetables grown by Guildford-based Secretts, including beetroot, which co-founder Vernon Mascheranas claims is one of the “most fashionable” vegetables at the 250 London restaurants that he supplies. Meanwhile, after 15 years as a stand-alone show, BBC Gardeners’ World Live at the NEC in Birmingham (13-17 June) will co-locate with BBC Good Homes Live and the BBC Good Food Summer Festival.
