RHS to hold plant breeder 'enabler' event

RHS plant committee coordinator Lesley Whayman is organising an event on 6 November at Hillside Event Centre at Wisley to help British breeders "to fulfil their promise".

Whayman says there is a lot of "excellent amateur breeding in the UK that doesn’t get anywhere" and the RHS can help bring breeders together with micro-propagation companies and marketing companies to bring their plants to market.

The event will look at breeding of cut flowers, breeding for exhibition and breeding for garden plants. Roger Parsons and Simon Crawford will speak.

Kew intellectual property development manager Cecilia Buffery will speak on plant breeders rights, micro-propagation and intellectual property.

The RHS will encourage breeders to put plants forward for awards of garden merit (AGM) trials via plant societies.
