Speaking on a recent trip with the All-Party Parliamentary Gardening & Horticulture Group to Christ Church CE Primary School in Battersea, London, Biggs said: "We are very lucky as a generation that has grandparents in their sixties and seventies who are very fit and able, and for them to come in and help is amazing and totally in tune with the idea of the Big Society."
She added: "It's very important for the industry that people understand how important horticulture is. It's got massive benefits to communities in the urban areas."
The campaign aims to develop gardening in education. Christ Church head teacher Colette Morris said: "I wouldn't like every school to have to implement gardening - they don't all need it - but in a built-up community it's important."
