Redcar seeks landscape architect for coastal project

A landscape architect is needed to bring some long-needed panache to a 1.5km stretch of seafront in the North East town of Redcar.

The first stage of the competition asks designers to brainstorm ideas and approaches for the public-realm aspects of a new coastal defence scheme for a sea wall.

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and the Environment Agency are looking for a "coherent set of proposals" for the seafront backdrop, road and building fronts.

"Redcar now recognises the need to improve the quality, role and economic performance of its seafront visitor space to raise its profile and stimulate investment," said a representative for RIBA, which is running the competition.
