Reaseheath wins landscape heat

7mx7m garden takes college team to Saltex final in September

Reaseheath College in Cheshire has won the first round of the UK Landscape Skills competition. A four-person team, accompanied by lecturer Ian Benison, competed in the first regional event of the contest at Myerscough College in Preston last month. NVQ horticultural students from Reaseheath, Myerscough and Greenmount College in Enniskillen built a seven-metre by seven-metre landscaped area. Reaseheath’s team was Tom Haughey, Steven Williams, Sara Mahomed and Scott Ashton. Landscape designer Peter Killen, who planned the garden, said: “Competing has given them valuable experience of applying their skills and knowledge while working under pressure and most importantly, as part of a team.” Competition finalists will compete at the national final at Saltex on 6-8 September. The winner will then compete against the 2006 winning team for the chance to enter WorldSkills in Japan 2007.
