Rare UK talk by John Dixon Hunt to combine the ethereal with the real

One of the world's most prominent garden theorists and historians, John Dixon Hunt, is to regale an audience with a talk combining mind-stretching philosophy with hard-and-fast design.

The American will make a rare UK appearance next week to talk about the famous Little Sparta garden and the "afterlife of gardens", both of which he has written books on.

Little Sparta in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh is considered Ian Hamilton Finlay's greatest work of art and includes strong sculptural elements.

"John has had a major influence on our thinking on historic gardens and is a noted contemporary commentator," said a spokesman for the museum.

John Dixon Hunt will talk at the Garden Museum, Lambeth Palace Road, on the evening Tuesday 8 June. Tickets cost £10, £5 for museum friends.
