A local authority has tapped into funding from a property and energy firm to improve play features and planting in a community park.
Banks Group handed over just over £15,000 to the Friends of Addison Park on the south-west outskirts of Durham earlier this month. The cash topped up a £60,000 fund for improvements that includes lottery money.
The improvemenst include a zip wire, tyre swing, climbing frame and rope walk, as well new flowers and borders around the bowling green and seating. The park, created in the 1930s, had become run down in recent years through a lack of investment.
Chairman of the Friends of Addison Park John Muirhead said he expected the number of people using the park to grow, and he was thinking about a new round of redevelopment.
"A great deal of fundraising and development work has gone into this project, and there’s a real sense of achievement about reaching a point where we can physically see the results of everyone’s efforts," he said.
