Produce Investments, the Scottish Borders-based parent company of potato supplier Greenvale, has announced it has entered into talks with The Jersey Royal Company, the Channel Island's largest potato producer.

The AIM-listed company said in a statement that it had "agreed a period of exclusivity in relation to a potential acquisition of the Jersey Royal Company", but added this was "non-binding and subject to due diligence".

The Jersey Royal Company produces 25,000 tonnes annually of Jersey Royal potatoes, which have EU Protected Designation of Origin status.

Its market value has been estimated at £12m.
