Suppliers from 14 different countries have signed up for stands at the trade fair in Boskoop, Holland, and new plants will be judged by the Boskoop Royal Horticultural Society as well as an international jury.

Although Plantarium officially opens tomorrow (27 August) and runs until 30 August, the show will be launched tonight by international publisher Annemarie van Gaal.

Dutch-born van Gaal, who ran Russia’s largest publishing company in the 1990s, will open the show by examining the global business theme.

Plantarium is to coincide for the first time this year with two other trade fairs.

The plan to stage Plantarium 2008 at the same time as the FloraHolland autumn trade fair and Boskoop season shows has grown out of a desire to give visitors more for their money in an uncertain economic climate.

FloraHolland spokesperson Adrienne Lansbergen said: It is more efficient to go to the Netherlands just once and see a complete assortment of products in one go and people can save money doing that.

Generations of ordinary British people have been let down by weak, visionless leaders -- politicians more engaged by the next election than our national best interest.
