Piazza planned for King’s Cross

New north London public space in time for Olympics

A large piazza overlooking Regents Canal will form part of a £140m King’s Cross redevelopment, led by property developer Argent. The plans include a new location for the country’s most famous fashion college, Central St Martins. The scheme is part of a £2bn plan to regenerate the area in time for the 2012 Olympics. Central St Martin’s, where designers such as Stella McCartney have trained, is scheduled to move there in 2010. The college will occupy a Grade II-listed granary building. The 26ha site is owned by London & Continental Railways and DHL Logistics. The site has only outline plans at present, and a landscape architect has yet to be appointed.
