The survey by artificial grass retailer Grono asked more than 400 gardeners to measure the length of grass they felt made the perfect lawn.
Their answers were than averaged to give the final value for the perfect blade of grass – 3.25cm.
That’s more than four times the length of the turf on centre court at Wimbledon of 0.8cm.
A Grono representative said: "Gardeners usually set their mower to a certain setting and then leave it at that level forever.
"Many of them knew visually what length they liked their grass to be but we asked them to measure it and let us know the answer. The findings were fairly consistent and averaged out at 3.25cm."
