Perennial will be working in partnership with the NHS Innovation Agency who will be bringing along volunteers from their Heart Heroes Programme to help promote the Know Your Numbers! Week campaign. To do this, the NHS will be offering free blood pressure and pulse checks to those attending the trade show.
Perennial said: "One of our prevent objectives is to protect, promote and improve the wellbeing of people in the horticulture industry. We know that health literacy is low in the industry and one of our key priority areas is promoting heart health. One aspect of this is blood pressure as results from our health and wellbeing survey show not many people know their blood pressure readings and may have concerns about taking time off work if unwell. We aim to educate them around managing blood pressure while staying fit and healthy and in work.
"We aim to collect data on blood pressure and pulse readings, as well as age, gender and occupation to develop our knowledge base about the health of people in the horticultural industry. Although not a formal piece of research, this data will help guide the work of the Prevent team in contributing to our targeted approach to preventative health in the horticultural industry."
The NHS have agreed to complete free blood pressure (BP) checks and pulse checks for people attending the trade show. They will support these checks with NHS branded resources about heart health, discussions about cholesterol and healthy living advice, and a pre-approved GP letter should any individuals have high blood pressure. They will also support individuals who have worryingly high readings and how to take immediate action. There is no charge for the staff/volunteers, resources or expertise.
