The £40 million scheme will see the existing Percy Thrower’s Garden Centre relocated to a new 6,000sqm purpose-built premises.

The plans for the development will also involve the creation of a new seven-store shopping parade.

Nigel Keen, director of development at Waitrose, said:
"We’re delighted with Thursday’s decision. We cannot wait to bring our full range of Waitrose goods and shopping experience to local people when we open just before Christmas 2014."

The scheme was given the near-unanimous backing of Shropshire Council’s planning committee.
