Palmers acquires Ullesthorpe Garden & Aquatic centre

Leicester-based Palmers Garden Centre managing director Caroline Palmer has bought a second centre, formerly Ullesthorpe Garden & Aquatic Centre, near Lutterworth.

The new business is to be rebranded as Palmers at Ullesthorpe on a site covering around 6ha. The management team plans to reinvigorate the new business and has plans to transform it into a destination garden centre. The current operation turns over £3.4m a year.

Palmer said: "We're future-proofing the business. We have a car park extension and a 250-seat cafe planned for our current Palmers, but once that's done we can't expand any more on that site so the business will be plateauing in a few years."

She added: "There is planning consent for a big development at the new site but we are not going to do that yet. The buildings there are a similar size to our other site, but there is more room around them. Currently it is lacking in stock so we're stocking up for Christmas."
