Irish packaging manufacturer Holfeld Plastics has claimed an award for sustainable packaging design presented by Repak, an Irish industry body which aims to boost recycling.

The scope of the award, sponsored by the Irish Packaging Society, covers all aspects of packaging from integrity to eco-friendly sourcing of materials, use of recyclates and simple, more recyclable materials.

Holfeld's Diamat technology "supercleans" recycled polymer pellets which then go to make a range of products including fresh produce punnets. These are not only made from up to 90 per cent recycled material, but are also lighter than comparable conventional materials, and are designed to minimise transport and handling requirements.
