The £130,000 landscape for a hip, professional couple is a series of contemporary garden rooms designed to create a sense of journey and discovery.
"The house was vibrant and eclectic and filled with modern art," said Keegan. "I wanted the garden to be similarly different. Inspiration came from an opera production of Xerxses and it was designed as a piece of art or an installation rather than a conventional garden.
"They (the client) liked sunken gardens, tree ferns, water and lighting. They wanted the space to be an extension to the house and to include a play area and a tropical garden."
The 0.6ha space in Chester won best garden category at the Northern Design Awards and has screened spaces for sculpture and bespoke furniture. The awards also highlighted housing, interior and fabric design.
