Olympic Park choice venue for baton twirlers

The World Baton Twirling Championships will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - bringing it to the UK for the first time.

Teams from 25 countries will look to take the title from current holders France at the Copper Box in the east London park.

The opening ceremony will take place on 6 August next year and the four-day competition will start the next day.

Around 1,000 competitors are expected to take part.

Parts of The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will permanently open to the public on 29 July. Visitors will be able to enjoy a revamped North Park feature the treetop Tumbling Bay playground designed by Land Use Consultants as well as a mile-long cycle track and cafe/community centre, Timber Lodge, that may be licensed for weddings.

A bigger section of parkland is being finished for opening in April 2014.
